Gr 1-3-Spooky things are happening in this fun Spanish-language chapter book series. In La profesora del pantano, a substitute teacher arrives in Johnny and Joey's classroom at Murky Meadows Elementary, and the friends are sure she is a monster from the swamp, just like in one of Johnny's comics. The friends keep an eye on Se�ora Gilman and follow her to the swamp near the school, where they make a monstrous discovery! In Los payasos del espacio, Ema is on her way to her friend Tia's birthday party and hopes there aren't any scary clowns there. When she arrives, not only are there clowns, but they're encouraging everyone to go into the bounce castle-even the parents. Something isn't right, and soon Ema realizes that these clowns are not from this world. The entries in this series have short chapters with colorful and fun illustrations and fast-paced, spooky plots. Each title features a glossary, discussion questions, writing prompts, and jokes related to the story. VERDICT The titles in the "�BU!" chapter book series are perfect for Spanish-language chapter book collections, especially where scary stories are popular.-Selenia Paz
