Grades 1-3 Eager to avoid performing in the Oak Glen Primary School talent show, EllRay Jakes and his classmates decide to sabotage the tryouts by only offering up the third grade's worst acts. EllRay signs up with a magic act sure to keep him out of the spotlight, having never performed a trick in his life. However, after working with his father to master a few basic illusions, EllRay realizes that maybe he's got a talent worth showing off after all. Maybe he really is EllRay the Magnificent ! This sixth entry in the series is powered by EllRay's usual quirky voice and features a text lightly peppered with illustrations and handwritten lists, as well as a simple plot will resonate with most kids. There is a comforting aspect to Warner's writing, as she is careful to provide her characters with the family and community support they need to overcome the obstacles they face.
