Acclaimed author Will Hobbs has won numerous awards for his fiction, and seven of his novels have been named ALA Best Books for Young Adults. Inspired by Hobbs' own journey through the Rio Grande's canyons near the border with Mexico, Take Me to the River is a thrilling tale. Fourteen-year-old Dylan and his cousin are paddling the Rio Grande when they see six Black Hawk helicopters fly into Mexico. The army won't say what's happening, but they do tell the boys a hurricane is approaching. Undeterred, the boys continue their journey, unaware of what lies ahead.

Dylan, a teen from North Carolina, couldn't be more excited about a week of canoeing and rafting on the Rio Grande with his cousin from Texas. What starts as a fun trip turns into a lot more as a raging river tests their survival skills. Will Hobbs's keen knowledge of taking on a river is paired with Steven Boyer's fine narration. Boyer differentiates the boys slightly but effectively. A Mexican boy and a man the teens encounter are as different as can be. Boyer maneuvers through these four main characters as deftly as the teens paddle through the rushing rapids. M.B. (c) AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
