唐僧师徒上了一座高山，山上忽然起风又起雾，原来有妖怪在喷风吐雾。
悟空把八戒骗去，打跑了众妖。
妖王回到连环洞，选出三个能干的小妖，变作他的样子，分别引开悟空、八戒和沙僧，他趁机捉走了三藏。
悟空三人发现中计，打上连环洞。妖怪们丢了个假人头出去，说三藏已经被吃了，被悟空识破了。
妖怪们又弄了个真人头丢出去，三兄弟见状大哭。
悟空去找妖王报仇，发现师父没死，于是变出无数瞌睡虫，弄睡洞中大小妖怪，救回三藏。
悟空又进洞去，抓了妖王出来，再与八戒一起，一把火烧了连环洞。
