陈尧叟、陈尧佐、陈尧咨三兄弟当中，陈尧佐排行老二，大哥是陈尧叟，小弟是陈尧咨。三兄弟的父亲叫陈省华，陈省华的曾祖父叫陈翔，祖籍内蒙古。陈翔本为唐末并门的书记官，后随前蜀开国皇帝王建入川，在王建身边任从事，为了劝阻王建不要称帝，因此忤逆了王建的本意，被王建发配到新井任县令。新井县当时隶属阆州阆中郡，以境内多盐井，故而名为新井，古新井就是如今的四川南部县大桥镇新井村。
