Un leone, alquanto altezzoso e crudele, stanziava lungo un sentiero alberato.
Esso aveva un brutto carattere; infatti, era sempre pronto ad azzuffarsi per un nonnulla con chiunque percorresse quei pressi.
Una volpe, che a sua insaputa passerà lungo quel viottolo, sarà perciò da lui presa di mira con lo scopo di farla diventare una sua preda, vale a dire: la vivanda del suo prossimo pasto.
La volpe, però, agirà d'astuzia, ricavandone vantaggio. Di conseguenza, il leone sarà beffato e rimarrà, quindi, con "un palmo di naso".
Sullo sfondo di questa contesa, s'inserisce la figura di un povero agnellino, il quale subirà le angherie sia dal leone sia dalla volpe.
Alla fine, però, un disegno provvidenziale cambierà in meglio il corso della sua vita...
