1929年，董存瑞出生在河北省怀来县南山堡一户农民家里。13岁的董存瑞当上了儿童团团长，16岁成了民兵，同年7月参加八路军。在察北重镇独石口遭遇战中，他英勇地夺下敌人的一挺机枪，被记大功一次。长安岭狙击战中，他在班长牺牲、副班长重伤的情况下，挺身而出自任班长，坚决地完成了狙击任务，又立大功一次。至牺牲前，董存瑞共立大功3次、小功4次，荣获3枚勇敢奖章和1枚毛泽东奖章。
1948年5月25日，在解放隆化的战斗中，董存瑞冒着枪林弹雨冲到敌人的桥型暗堡下。可是找不到支撑点，炸药包无处安放。这时，总攻的冲锋号已经吹响，敌人的机枪却依然疯狂地向外吐着火舌。无数勇士倒在了前进的路上......
董存瑞怒目圆睁，手擎炸药包，拉燃了导火索，高呼："为了新中国，冲啊！"随着天崩地坼的一声巨响，敌人的工事土崩瓦解，英雄用生命为战友们开启了通往胜利的大门！
