PreS-Gr 2-Common, relatable milestones are celebrated in this series about a child's first experiences, including going camping, winning a trophy, losing a tooth, and riding a bike. Each book details the activities associated with each new event, explaining how readers can overcome obstacles. For example, in Mi primera bicicleta/My First Bike, the main character is a little wobbly at first and falls a few times, but exhibits resiliency and determination to try again. Playful pen-and-ink drawings mixed with watercolor reflect racial and ethnic diversity as well as different family types. Like other series by this publisher, these books are available in both a bilingual and a Spanish-only format. In the bilingual edition, English and Spanish words are shown side by side and work seamlessly with the imagery to produce a cohesive narrative structure. A picture glossary featuring new words and an index are included. VERDICT Recommended for larger nonfiction collections.
