Gr 1-5-This installment of the popular "Kingdom of Wrenly" spinoff series deals with the aftermath of Witch Dragon Villinelle's disappearance at the hands of the wizard Valos. All of Crestwood gathers for a sacred ceremony both to honor Villinelle and to try magically to locate her. The kingdom's dragon denizens next travel to the Shattered Shore to further pay their respects. Young heroes Ruskin, Groth, Cinder, and Roke get caught up in otherworldly mischief. A cliffhanger ending spells further danger to come. Arranged in 10 chapters with few panels per page and ample gutter space, the format is ideal for readers transitioning from early readers to longer graphic novels. The quick, action-packed story is told mostly in dialogue, with some narration in yellow text boxes. VERDICT Recommended for all collections as a dragon tale for readers not quite ready for "Wings of Fire." Best to start at book one.
