In tutto il mondo la stupidità dilaga, e in particolare domina in Italia, soprattutto in Sicilia, ormai universalmente nota come Stupidistan. Patty Carnemolla, maldestra dog sitter romana, una notte ci si trova catapultata con l'inganno, e si risveglia in mezzo a mucchi di spazzatura, bambini che fumano sigarette Tabacco Siciliano e adulti obesi completamente ipnotizzati da schermi e slot-machine. All'urlo di "Uniti si vince!", gli abitanti di Stupidistan hanno abolito scuole, tasse e tutte le regole; mangiano solo carne, consumano solo bevande dolci e gassate e si spostano solo a motore. Vegetariana, mediamente alfabetizzata e non fumatrice, Patty viene internata in manicomio, dove incontra altre persone come lei che hanno rinunciato a lottare e custodiscono gelosamente gli ultimi libri rimasti sull'isola. Patty invece rifiuta di arrendersi, sa che i libri rendono invincibili, e possono darti la pazienza e il coraggio di rimediare ai disastri della stupidità.
