Providing a basics-and-beyond reference for novice and experienced sewers, these guides include a large number of color photographs of each piece of equipment or sewing technique in the step-by-step directions. (Despite the branding of the books, the content is not machine-specific.) Both begin with the tools of the trade, followed by techniques proceeding from basic to advanced. The primary difference is that "New Sewing Essentials" contains only reference information, and Complete Photo Guide features projects. Both are excellent references; economically minded selectors may prefer "The Complete Photo Guide", because it serves as a reference and a project book, while libraries looking to add a sewing book to their reference collection might prefer the straightforward "New Sewing Essentials".
